The Carlos Palanca Foundation has been one of the most importnt supporters of Philippine literature through its annual awards. Starting with the Short Story category in both English and Filipino, the awards has since elicited an overwhelming response from talented writers in the country. Thus the Foundation added new categories: Essay, Novel, One-Act Play, Full Length Play, Teleplay, Screenplay, and Short Story for Children. In 1997, it introduced three more: Ilocano, Cebuano, and Hiligaynon Short Story. In this volumes of selected winning literay works, the foundation celebrates the talent of the Filipino writer - a proof of its commitment to the development of Philippine literature.
