Warning! Picking this book up may have been ill-advised. The author, after alldespite a small number of inexplicable literary accolades, including the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature, and the international Mariner Awardis habitually sardonic, skeptical, and irreverent, and has filled these pages with fourteen stories in which completely impossible things occur.
These include a zombie invading the front lawn of a woman undergoing the end of her marriage, a modern-day spy tasked with ensuring the safety of a god, and what has been described as Tokugawa shogunate mecha. Whats more, the pieces are set not only in her native Philippines, but in locations as diverse as ancient Japan, China, Araby, and other unbelievable imaginary places. There is also some quite unabashed sex contained herein, so if this sort of thing troubles youas it should all sensible folkyou would be best served by gently putting this book down right now, and backing warily away.
If you choose to read this book regardless, and thereby subject yourself to possible WonderLust contamination, it is entirely your own lookout. You have been warned.
