Built in the heart of Intramuros, San Agustin was the mother church, It was the first Spanish stone church to be built in the Philippines. It has been described as "a permanent miracle in stone. " The book is divided into two sections. The first section deals with the history of the church and monastery, and the interesting people and colorful events that make the four hunderd -year history come alive. The second section is a detailed "walking tour" of the San Agustin church monastery museum complex, the various buildings which are themselves architectural marvels that have stood the test of time, and art objects that compromise tis remarkable collection of church art. San Agustin features 100 photos, 60 in color and other archrival photos many of which have never been published before, maps and a 400-year comprehensive chronology of the Church, the Monastery, and the Museum.
