I consider it a rare privilege to have written this book at a time when our country, under the aegis of the New Society, has embarked on a massive development in all phases of our national life, especially in the area of sports. To see to it that this objective is attained, the government has now incorporated sports development programs in the curriculum of all schools in the Philippines and has encouraged active public participation and support.

What is further encouraging in the fact that sport programs do not embrace the more popular ones alone. They now include sports which, although not popular, but are truly Filipino in origin and suitability like Arnis, which is fast awakening the nationalistic and cultural favor of our people.

It is with this atmosphere that prompted the publication of this book – a modest effort to help develop sports and strengthen the physical and moral fibers of those interested in modern Arnis. It is my fond hope that the book which spells out in simple language the fundamentals, techniques, rules and applications of Arnis, will be of great use and benefit to the national program of sports development
