Book 2 of a landmark eight-volume Philippine Folk Literature series, this volume contains stories of gods and goddesses, of calamities, of creation and origin, to name a few, drawing from the ethno-linguistic lore of all the regions of the Philippines, and presenting them in English translation.

Winner of the Gawad CCP para sa Sining (Cultural Research), Eugenio is considered “Ina ng Folklore ng Pilipinas (Mother of Philippine Folklore).” She is Professor Emeritus at the UP Department of English and Comparative Literature.
