Seven Hills Away is N. V. M. Gonzalez' first story collection, which won him a fellowship to Stanford, and identified him as the first Filipino to appear on the post-World War II literary scene. The stories, derived from the author's boyhood and youth spent on his father's farm in Mindoro, belong among the world's tales of folk and land, warm and human faces of people who have folk traditions, who clear land and till it, who live with love and laughter and sorrow.
The late NVM Gonzalez was Professor Emeritus at the UP Department of English and Comparative Literature.
