Sugay (Ike Jarlego Jr) proposes to Chet (Nora Dy)
Kuwentong Bahay-Bahayan is a one-of-a-kind musical comedy whose unique feature antedates American Director Alan Parker's Bugsy Malone (1976) by more than 20 years. All the parts are played by children.
Boy arrives at the home of Don Liwanag.
The story revolves around the lives of two families - the family of the wealthy landlord Don Liwanag (Antonio de los Angeles), and that of one of his tenants, Kadyo (Antonio Medina). Don Liwanag is running for Congress in the coming elections but his wife, Do๑a Menggay (Carmen Ba๑ez) disapproves because elections means spending money. She urges him to collect the debts their tenants owe them. Since Kadyo is unable to pay, Don Liwanag asks him to volunteer one of his children to work as a ser vant. Kadyo's son Boy (Ronaldo Acuzar) volunteers for the unpleasant task to spare his sister Chet (Nora Dy) the humiliation.
Boy's grandparents - Lolo Bastian & Lola Fortuna
Boy meets Don Liwanag's children - Sugay (Ike Jarlego Jr), spoiled and arrogant, and Betty (Ruth Blanco), who develops a fondness for Boy. Sugay's attitude towards Boy changes when he meets Chet, who is not intimidated by Sugay's overbearing attitude.
Sugay almost gets a beating from Chet
Sugay is smitten by Chet and seeks the help of Boy in courting his sister. Chet says love between her and Sugay is impossible because they belong to two entirely different worlds.
Don Liwanag's 'miting de avance'
When the elections finally take place, the early returns indicate that Don Liwanag is losing heavily. Do๑a Menggay's biggest fear is about to be realized - becoming impoverished like their tenants
Cameo performance by the young Willy Cruz
