Tagalog Movie
Four diverse barrio women whose sole similarity is their individual repression find salvation and self-worth through the town's "Baryoke" (barrio karaoke).
Lea is an orphan working as a maid in a nearby town, forced to swallow the daily humiliation from her employer.
Perla is a bored and sexually stagnate wife wanting to leave her husband but does not have the courage to do so.
Joan is a young prostitute on the verge of exposing the town priest as her most persistant client.
Diana is a public school teacher who turned catatonic upon the death of her husband and children.
They find their lives begin to intertwine in the videoke and there find the courage to stand up for themselves, sing and be free and consequently overcome their repressions and fears.
Written and Directed by Byron Bryant, Baryoke won Best Cinematography in the 2005 Cinemalaya.
