Clara Andrada has a heart ailment and giving birth to a baby might prove fatal for her.
Rather than risking his wife's life just to have children, Gilbert decides to adopt a baby girl named Maureen.
Clara is against the idea so when she sees her husband so caught up with little Maureen, she decides to have a child of her own.
She survived the childbirth and that same moment began a life-long war against Maureen to keep Gilbert's affections to herself and her daughter Gladys.
